In 1995, the state of Chile passed the Vitivinicultural Zoning and Appellation of Origin Law via Decree No. 464 for wines produced in the country. The law establishes that the wines with Appellation of Origin , will be able to use or mention ,the regions , valleys and/ or areas on their labels ,only when they fulfill with the condition that at least 75% of the wine has been produced with grapes grown in the geographical area indicated.

This Decree also defines the varieties of grapes that can be used in the elaboration of these wines. In article 4 , the law indicates that the label of the bottled wine, must indicate the variety of grapes corresponding to the 75% of the grapes found in the mixture.

Within these reasons Casablanca is established as one of the regions of Appellation of Origin of Chile and it is extended to the area with the same name. Beginning in 2001, Chile’s Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG),a government organization, began to implement, apply, and enforce this law.
